“You must fall in love with your work, never complain about it and dedicate your life in mastering the skills. This is the secret of success”, (Jiro, Ono)

Trailer:

Jiro Dreams of Sushi, a very interesting documentary directed by David Gelb. It is the inspiring story of the legendary sushi master, Jiro Ono’s life and his “shokunin” philosophy. Topics that have been discussed in the film revolve around Jiro’s attitude towards life, such as the goal of creating the perfect piece of sushi, the discipline that he had exerted to assist his apprentices in reaching perfection. And last, the succeeding pressure that his eldest son, Yoshikazu is facing in maintaining Jiro’s legacy.

Throughout the entire film, my favourite part is the environmental issue that had been brought up. Yoshikazu has admitted in the film that it is getting difficult to sustain the quality of the ingredients due to the problem of overfishing. This makes me salute Jiro and his employees with all respect. The remarkable sushi master had surely educated his staff well with his belief of “shokunin,” that the social responsibility that one should oblige with effort is not being neglected.

I would highly recommend this documentary to all of you, even you are not one of the sushi fanatics. The splendid effects of the instrumental score combined with a motivating story would definitely lead you through the 90 minute educative and drooling feast that you can't afford to miss out!
