Festive Feed: Favourite Movies for Christmas

Christmas is again around the corner!!! With all types of fancy decorations along the streets and reunions with family and friends, Essential Feed can sense the passion in the air. In this very special occasion, we would like to first list our all time Christmas favourite movies to provide joy to the very special you!!!

1) Home Alone (1990)

Home Alone (1990); one of my early childhood favourites. A funny comedy of a boy who was left alone at home by accident during the family vacation to France in Christmas makes me feel connected as a kid who was often left alone at home. I remembered how I had worshipped Kevin (starring by Macaulay Culkin) as my childhood hero and foolishly hoped that I can have the same occurrences as him to defeat the burglars all by myself. Even though there have been other similar productions after the series, the charm of the Home Alone series is still irresistible and is ranked as one of the best family comedies in my heart.

2) Nightmare before Christmas (1993)

“This is Halloween, This is Halloween, This is Halloween…” the catchy tune that all of us are familiar with. Written by Tim Burton, this unconventional Christmas cartoon has attracted me deeply with its distinctive visual style. Till today, it is still one of my favourite movies. I can still remember how excited I was as a kid when I went to visit the Nightmare before Christmas themed haunted house at Tokyo Disneyland and the spanks I received from my mum from annoying her off with my persistance in getting the merchandise right after.

3) Love Actually (2003)

A British romantic comedy consisting of various individual stories that depicts different aspects of love. Each plot stands out distinguishably with its own perspective but are subtly interlinked with one another in an interesting way. Among all, my favourite storyline is Daniel and Sam, a father and son who are learning to build up the bond with each other after the loss of their wife and mother. The dialogue between a grown up and a boy is relatively funny and heart-warming that it touches your heart.

4) Miracle on the 34th Street (1947)

Centred on a benevolent man who claimed to be Santa Claus leads to people questioning his sanity and further creates a series of arguments in New York City. Miracle on the 34th street (1947) has well illustrated the compelling nature of conflicts between fantasy and reality.  In my opinion, this is more of an adult oriented Christmas movie as it is rather realistic in portraying the gradual lost of our purity, compassion and other virtues after years of a dreary life. However, the important lesson learnt at the end of the movie is to have a constant belief in faith so anything impossible might become possible someday. Well, thinking positively comes along with good luck!!!

5) It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)

Lastly, our favourite Christmas classic, It’s a Wonderful Life (1946). The story revolves around a deeply troubled man, George Bailey (starring James Stewart) who had intended to commit suicide during Christmas eve. His plans were interrupted by his guardian angel who had shown him what the world would be like if he did not exist. This movie is a definite classic. It is a heart healing therapy for those who are suffering from emotional distraught. No matter what happens, we are important to our love ones, so just take a deep breath and eventually obstacles shall be overcome.
