We hope you enjoyed the coverage of London Collection for Menswear AW 14 so far. And as we are all psyched up about the upcoming Milan and Paris menswear preview. We thought we ought to do something related to fashion for this week’s cinema feed. Bill Cunningham New York (2010) seems to fit well to the theme.
Trailer:
This is a documentary directed by Richard Press. Bill
Cunningham, a street fashion photographer for The New York Times, who rides a bicycle, cruising around the streets
of Manhattan on a daily basis to feature those fashion individuals who are
capable in expressing their personal style. Now at his age of eighty, Bill
not only strolls on the street, he also has a never-ending list of invitations
from different events to attend but his enthusiasm towards fashion keeps him tireless.
In various aspects, Bill shares similarities with Jiro, Ono from Jiro Dreams of Sushi, the legendary sushi master who believes in devoting your life to the job you love. From them, you learn that fame and wealth are insignificant compared to the joy for work or your passion.
The documentary rarely discussed Bill’s private life. All his friends are mostly his colleagues and do not know much about him other than work. According to Bill, he devoted all his time to fashion and thus has no time for other areas. When the director questioned him of his private life, Bill remained reserved but appeared to have a short emotional breakdown out of sudden. Due to what reason? It only leaves to your own interpretation.

playful features, click here to link to his video channel in The New York Times.
