Closet Archive #A - Adieu

Well for our second feature of Closet Archive, we are covering this romantic Parisan shoe label, Adieu.

Adieu is the charming new kid in town that was newly established in 2012 by Benjamin Caron and Isabelle Guedon, a couple who are from the seaside town of Les Sables d'Olonne. The name Adieu, was inspired from a poem about being positive, walking forward and never look back by 19th-century scribe, Stéphane Mallarmé.

Benjamin Caron:

As a fanatic over the shoes of the British lower class, Benjamin loves the style tracing back from the Teddy Boys era to the 70s and 80s Punk Rock scene. His devoted passion had driven him to study the art of shoe and boot making in Paris for several years. After that, he attempted to design his first collection of "Hand Made Brothel Creeper" in the early 90s.

A brief introduction of Teddy Boys aka Ted:

A British subculture representation in the 1950s, where young men dressed from being influenced by the dandy style in the Edwardian period, which was later strongly associated with rock and roll. The style consists of a drape jacket, high-waisted trousers and a white shirt. Sometimes, it is also matched with slim ties and waistcoats. More importantly, the look has to be matched with a pair of oxford, chunky brogues or either the brothel creepers to allow its completion.

Isabelle Guedon:

Before the formation of Adieu, Isabelle had diverse working experiences in various fashion houses. She once worked as the personal assistant of Alber Elbaz at Guy Laroche, Yves Saint Laurent and finally the head of textile design department at Les Art Déco paris school.

After accumulating years of experience in the industry, the couple eventually started up the shoe line which complements with their belief of the "bad boy look" and "refined silhouette". While emphasising on it's elegancy, the duo also focused on the functionality. Each pair of shoe was incorporated with a hidden "Airlite"; a foam layer for an unexpected light weight feel, and the "Blake" Stich crepe is set back to prevent the rubber trim from excessive wear marks.
