Multi-talented artist, Yoann Lemoine is a French music video director, graphic designer and singer-songwriter. Under the stage name Woodkid, he released his baroque pop debut album The Golden Age on 18th March last year. The album encompasses a whole new level of creativity which further enhances Lemoine's image as an all rounded genius in the field of arts.
The majority of the album is packed with orchestra style music; with the overwhelming usage of wind and string instruments. The entire album feels powerful and cinematic, and would be a fit contender for an adventurous film soundtrack. Paired with the dramatic theatrical setting, Lemoine's sullen vocals seem to neutralise the overall atmosphere by creating a distinct contrast, and to tone things down a little. Overall, the whole package gives off the vibes of an intricate adventure as you progress through the album.
Putting his other skills to work, Lemoine also directed the music video for his track "Run Boy Run" which was nominated for Best Short Form Music Video at the 2013 Grammys.
Artistic, eye-catching visuals, it's no surprise that the music video was nominated. It certainly matches well with the rhythm and the lyrics of the song. There's a lot to offer during the 3-minute video as it is exploding with creativity.
Besides "Run Boy Run," my other favourites would be "Ghost Lights" and "The Great Escape." The album is worth the listen especially if you're looking for a wild and bold production. However, it could become a strenuous listening experience that would not stick with you in the long run.
