Earthy, organic and spontaneous are probably some of the words that associate with the soundtrack. For the most part, the soundtrack is a synthesis of indie folk/rock and ambience–the ideal genres that matches well with the icelandic setting and the spiritual-peace-in-mind theme. Some tracks along with their matching scenes would definitely send chills down your spine.
My favourite tracks from the soundtrack would have to be José González's 'Step Out' and 'Stay Alive,' and 'Dirty Paws' by Of Monsters and Men. Both artists have produced songs that have this striking resemblance to Sigur Rós and Bon Iver which fits well with the nature of the film. All in all, it is fair to say that the entire collection brings out the beauty and touching aspects of the film. They would not be successfully achieved if the soundtrack had not been thoroughly considered.
So watch the movie and let the feelings run through the soundtrack. It is definitely a carefully thought out piece that had been assembled together and could be revisited again separately.
